Explorer Post #300

The Chaska Fire Department Explorer Post #300 is a group of kids ages 14 – 21 that train and participate in all aspects of the fire fighting industry.

We meet on Monday evenings. Our Explorers do have the option to attend training with the fire department as well. Our program is based on exposing the Explorers to the training and work ethic needed to succeed in the fire fighting field. The Explorers are expected to perform at the same skill level as a regular firefighter; this is mostly learned by working with their peers under the supervision of a fire fighter. The only restrictions we have to enforce is they cannot enter into a uncontrolled structure fire and they cannot operate hydraulic rescue tools. If the individual Explorer is not participating or able to contribute to the program, the Explorer is asked to leave the program in order for another to join.

A good portion of the Explorers time is spent supporting events such as their fund-raisers, fire prevention events, Christmas in May, and any event the fire department is involved in.

The post does fund raising in order to attend Explorer state level conferences and competitions. This is usually a weekend event out of the twin cities area. We are insured under the Learning for Life program of the Boy Scouts Northern Star Council. There are costs in the neighborhood of $75.00 in order to be involved in the program. This money is mainly for their uniform and Learning for Life dues. The yearly cost is now at $34.00.

Applications can be picked up at our fire station on almost any Monday evening.
