A Message from Chaska Police Chief Ryan Seibert
To the Chaska Community,
At the Chaska Police Department, our mission is two words: Serve. Protect.
With what has happened in the Twin Cities over the past week, I want to speak to you about these simple but powerful words. While I may be new to the community, I want to assure you that I understand the responsibility that comes with serving and protecting you, and I do not take it lightly.
As Chaska police officers, our first responsibility is to serve our community.
We do this through engagement and outreach. We participate in community events. We help collect donations. We organize programs like Safety Camp and Night to Unite, so that you can get to know us.
We are also dedicated to protecting the community.
Our department feels that sanctity of life must be the guiding principle for our officers. We work tirelessly to ensure that our officers have the tools they need to perform their job in innovative ways that achieve a peaceful outcome for everyone.
Our department has had training on crisis intervention and mental illness crises, conflict management and mediation, and recognizing and valuing community diversity and cultural differences to include implicit bias training.
The horrific death of George Floyd, the peaceful protests, and the civil unrest have been felt far beyond the city limits of Minneapolis. As we process these tragic events in our own ways, I want to reaffirm that our commitment is to serve you and protect you.
Together we are what makes up the Chaska community, and we will continue to work with you in a unified fight against hatred, discrimination, racism, and bigotry. The Chaska Police Department stands with you in fostering a community where everyone feels welcome and safe.
I look forward to getting to know and working together with you, our community, as the Chaska Police Department continues to strive toward these goals.
