Small Business Saturday

Saturday, November 29

Kick off the holiday shopping season by celebrating Small Business Saturday on November 29, the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Founded by American Express in 2010 and co-sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration since 2011, Small Business Saturday has grown into a nationwide Shop Small ® movement that celebrates local entrepreneurs and strengthens communities like Chaska. Since its start, consumers have spent an estimated $200 billion at small businesses on this day. Even better, for every dollar spent at a small business about 68 cents stays in the community.

Your favorite local shops pour their hearts into what they do every day-offering unique products, personalized service and a welcoming spirit that makes Chaska special. This Small Business Saturday, show them your support! Visit your local shops, dine at nearby restaurants and explore new boutiques.

Mark your calendar for November 29 and help make this holiday season shine for our local small businesses.

Business Spotlight

Cy's Bar & Grill

Location: 500 N Pine St #100

Cy’s Liquors was established by Cy Leivermann in 1948. Operating for 60 years in what is currently the 501 Building, Owner Terry Dircks moved Cy’s to the current location in the Mill Building in 2007. Cy’s Bar & Grill has been the heart of our community for 77 years, focused on serving our community great food and drinks!

Can you share a bit about your background and what led you to take over Cy’s Bar and Grill?
I grew up in a restaurant family; my Great Grandfather owned and operated a Spudnut Donut Franchise in Wickliff Ohio. My Father worked with his grandfather where he built his roots in hospitality and serving customers. Growing up my dad had some amazing opportunities to work with some of the best concepts in the country! In 2007 our family became a franchisee of Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers. As a Junior in high school, I started working as a crew member in our Apple Valley Location. I learned the same lessons from my father that he learned from his grandfather. After Graduating in 2012 from Iowa State with a degree in Hospitality Management, I took over our Raising Canes Operations. We operated our Raising Canes until 2024 when we sold it back to Raising Cane’s Corporate.

After selling our Raising Cane’s, I began to search for a location to open a restaurant of our own. Without any luck finding a location that would work for us, I came across an online listing for Cy’s Bar & Grill! Very quickly we fell in love with Cy’s and could see the amazing future it could have!

What’s your vision for Cy’s moving forward?
Below is an updated Vision Statement that we are currently using to lead and guide our decision!

“At Cy's Bar & Grill, we are committed to preserving the legacy of warmth, community, and family that has been built since opening in 1948 in Chaska.

Our vision is to remain the heart of the community - a welcoming haven where regulars and newcomers alike feel like family. We will honor the loyalty of our dedicated staff and cherished patrons by maintaining the traditions that make Cy's special, while thoughtfully introducing fresh experiences that enhance our inviting atmosphere.

With a deep respect for our roots, we aim to create lasting memories, foster genuine connections, and provide a comforting, familiar space for all who walk through our doors."

This Vision Statement does a great job keeping us grounded to what got us here, while also looking forward to what is going to allow us to be open for another 77 years!

What role do you hope Cy’s plays in the community?
Community involvement isn’t just something we put on our website, so it sounds good, We live it each day! We know that if we support our community, they will support us! I have been lucky to meet so many members of this community already this year, I am excited to continue to build on these relationships and make new ones!

What’s one thing you hope every customer (new or a regular) says after visiting Cy’s?
We should come back here again… We want to continue to build on our return traffic, the only way that is possible is to make sure everyone has a great experience when they visit!

What’s your go-to order on the Cy’s menu?
That is a tough one, totally depends on the time of day.

Morning - Small Plate with Sausage.
Lunch - Cobb Salad
Dinner - Boneless Wings with BBQ Dry Rub
Late Night - Grilled Chicken Quesadilla, I add Bacon and Jalapeno Ranch! It is fantastic!

What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about running Cy’s?
I have met more than 50 people who have been drinking at Cy’s since before I was born!
