[ARCHIVED] Prescribed Burn at McKnight Wetland

Map with outline around the McKnight Wetland area

The city of Chaska has a professional burn crew performing a prescribed burn today in the McKnight Wetland. The 30 acres of wetland is between Pioneer Trail, McKnight Road, and Bavaria Road.

There will be signage place along the walking trail and roadway when the burn is taking place. During the burn, please give personnel ample space to safely complete the work.

The prescribed burn is part of the city's project to restore the McKnight Wetland to its historical conditions. Over the next few years, crews will restore the historical water level, remove invasive vegetation, and reestablish native vegetation.

Work conducted this year has focused on the removal of the invasive vegetation with several herbicide applications. The prescribed burn will help prepare the site for seeding that will take place during the winter.
